STEP SCREENS
Considered as valid automated systems for screening debris and solids suspended in liquids, step screens are highly effective in solid / liquid separation processes. They are typically used in water treatment and depuration plants where efficient primary screening is crucial for the entire cycle of downstream processes.

MOD. X-STEP
This type of step screen consists of a mechanically cleaned screen, ideal for depuration plant headworks, pumping stations and water inlet structures. It consists of a stainless steel frame with a screening surface composed of fixed and movable lamellas. When effluent passes through the screening area (lamellas), the screenings are captured and lifted up by a chain. The screenings are then removed from the screening area and discharged.
STEP SCREEN OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The operating principle of a step screen is extremely simple. The screening pack consists of two independent and interpenetrating blocks (one movable and another fixed). The relative motion of both blocks forces the screened material to advance continuously towards the discharge area, while the screen openings are kept free and clean. Also, thanks to the screening pack configuration, the same debris is processed over and over again by pushing the screening operation beyond the limits of the lamella interstices. In this way, the material accumulated on the screening pack can be used to increase the percentage of retained suspended solids.
When selecting the screen opening sizes, the large screening surface available must be taken into account, as this allows operating at low crossing speeds while limiting fluid pressure drops.
