ELECTRICALLY-ASSISTED DEWATERING MACHINE
In collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan and our Spanish partner AIN (Asociacion de la Industria Navarra), and also thanks to the support of the European Community (SLUDGETREAT project No. 611593 FP7), we were able to develop a new concept of electrically – assisted dewatering equipment.

This new and innovative dewatering machine is the improved version of the standard X-RAD version. The inside features a special electrode configuration capable of exerting an electro-osmotic action to increase dry content in effluent sludge. The dewatering mechanism of the X-ERAD machine foresees a mechanical action for moving sludge across the system and is able to overcome outlet counter-pressure. The electro-osmotic action occurs consecutively and simultaneously with the mechanical action. X-ERAD is designed to reach dried sludge values exceeding 20% with minimum energy expenditure.
Thanks to the electro – osmotic feature, the X-ERAD machine is able to remove extra amounts of water from sludge. This result, normally unattainable through the mechanical action alone, is a dried sludge value of around 25%.
The energy expenditure, in relation to the increase in the final dried sludge values reached by the X-ERAD, is lower compared to other conventional dewatering systems under the same start and end conditions.
